Superman/Batman: Public Enemies Cover Reveals Next DCUA Feature!
Warner Bros. Home Video has released the back cover to Superman/Batman: Public Enemies the next highly anticipated feature in the DC Universe Animated Original Movie line. While it’s good to get a peak at the DVD’s special features, one thing jumped out at me, in particular:
The next direct-to-DVD feature in the DCU line is Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths!
While there’s no official announcement as to what the video is actually about, it’s possible that this could be a re-working of the never made Dwayne McDuffie Justice League Unlimited script, When Worlds Collide. Planned as a direct-to-video JLU movie, When Worlds Collide was to be set after Starcrossed and would have answered some questions regarding the end of the JLA series and the relaunch of JLU, such as how Wonder Woman acquired her invisible jet, as well as the expansion of the League’s membership, and The Crime Syndicate of America would have been the main villains of the story. Unfortunately, the production was canceled just before it was scheduled to start filming.
We won’t know for sure if this a reworking of McDuffie’s script or something new entirely until either: (A) there is an official announcement or (B) we all get our greedy little hands on the Superman/Batman: Public Enemies DVD (like I needed another reason to be so excited for this movie!).
While this is definitely exciting news, I’ve got mixed feelings about the other special features. While I’m actually looking forward to the Dinner with DCU and Special Guest Kevin Conroy, most of these other features are basically the same as was on the recently released Green Lantern: First Flight movie. That could be the result of releasing the two movies relatively close to each other; perhaps there wasn’t time to create more features.
Either way, after getting some extended previews of the movie at Comic-Con last month, I can say that I am really stoked about this DVD. And now, to find out about the Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths sneak-peak…all I can say is, September 29, 2009 cannot get here fast enough!
