A Few Reveals for the JSA Episode of “Smallville”

The JSA is coming to Smallville next January, courtesy of Geoff Johns!Geoff Johns took to twitter this weekend to reveal a few details about the much anticipated upcoming appearance of the JSA on Smallville. Among the tweets, Johns revealed that the episode will be directed by Glen Winter, who directed the fan-favorite episode Legion, and that the shooting on the episode begins in two-weeks. According to Johns’ tweets, the episode is scheduled to air January 29, 2010.

Johns also gave a bit of a hint about one of the characters who will be making an appearance.

I can’t divulge the three members in the episode yet, but one of them is someone that should be obvious. A girl. Who likes stars. :)

Keep up-to-date by following Geoff Johns (@GeoffJohns0 on Twitter.

Now, anyone who loves the JSA knows that Johns has a special place in his heart for Stargirl, a character he created and named after his sister, Courtney, so this comes as not a big surprise, but I know I’m still looking forward to seeing her make the jump to television.

The question remains, if they’re only doing three characters, who are the other two making appearances. Johns has stated previously that the characters will be in there 40s (except Stargirl, I hope!) and Alan Scott (Green Lantern) and Jay Garrick (Flash) will not be appearing. So, who’s left? I’m also hoping that Johns pulls from the original team to round out his characters. I’m thinking Ted Grant (Wildcat) might be in there, since he’s the quintessential non-powered tough guy on the JSA. Perhaps Ted Knight (Starman) might make an appearance, with Courtney being related to him somehow.

Being that I’m a Justice Society junky from waaaaaaayyyyy back, and the fact that I think Geoff Johns is a comic writing god, to say that I’m excited for this episode is an understatement. While the three episodes of Smallville that have aired so far have left me more than a little cold (Zombie Lois? Really?), this whole season could be redeemable just with this one episode. I mean, c’mon…it’s the frakin’ JSA!
