It’s the time of the week again: Diamond Comics has released their list of what’s shipping this Wednesday. It’s a fairly light week for me, but I do have some stuff I’m looking forward to:

Batman: Streets of Gotham #1: Anytime Paul Dini writes Batman, it’s a good thing. He knows his Bats, and I’m really looking forward to his take on Dick Grayson as Batman. But what really excites me about this issue is the backup feature: Manhunter. I’ve loved, loved, loved Manhunter since I picked up a random issue of the series on a lark. I am so happy that she’s not going to fade into oblivion and absolutely cannot wait to see what they are going to do with the character.

Power Girl #2: I’ve always been a PG fan from WAAAAAAAY back (yeah…I’m an old guy!), but she was really mishandled for a long time there. That all changed when Geoff Johns got his…ah…hands on her. Now Justin Gray, Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner are continuing to do the Maid of Might honor. Issue #1 was a lot of fun and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I love that they’re starting her off with a bang, having her go up against Ultra-Humanite, a big baddie. Nothing less for our girl.

Supergirl #42: Let me just say, unlike the Batman titles of late, I’m absolutely grooving on what’s going on in the Superman titles and Supergirl has been off the hook for me lately. I never in a million years thought this title would be at the top of my must read list, but writer Sterling Gates has crafted a great story, coupled with some fabulous art by Jamal Ingle, one of my new favorite artists. Last issue revealed the identity of Superwoman and featured a major event in the life of the Girl of Steel. MAJOR. Can’t wait to see how it plays out.

Star Trek: The Wrath of Kahn #2: I don’t normally go for comic adaptations; comic-based movies are cool, but movie-based comics…not so much. But IDW’s done an incredible job capturing The Wrath of Kahn both in terms of the story and the art. Having to condense such the grand scope of the movie is no small feat and they’re pulling it off well. And the art is taking me back to being an 11-year old, sitting in the theatre being amazed by the whole thing. You guys should really check this one out.
Well, not a lot for me this week…which my wallet thinks is a good thing, especially given these prices lately. I know that, like a lot of people these days, I have to be super-particular about what I do and don’t buy. I hope that the publishers realize that’s a truth for a lot of people. They really need to be bringing their A-game to all their books, not just the event stuff…and they just haven’t been lately, in my opinion.

But I digress…
