Robinson & Bagley on JLA!
DC Universe’s blog The Source is reporting that James Robinson (Superman, Justice League: Cry for Justice and Mark Bagley (Trinity, Ultimate Spider-man) will be taking over the writing and art chores for Justice League of America. The pair’s first issue is due out in October.
According to Robinson, he’s excited to be able to intertwine all the goings-on in the DC universe these days.
From DC Universe: The Source“It’s a thrill to be given the reins of DC’s flagship team book and to know that my partner in crime(fighting) will be the esteemed Mark Bagley who’s dynamic storytelling skills I intend to make full use of. It’s further exciting/gratifying for me that I can dove-tail the events of Cry For Justice into the main book where post-Blackest Night will emerge a new team and a new exciting direction as they get caught up in the next wave of events building throughout the DCU.”
Mark Bagley will be at Heroes Con in Charlotte, NC this weekend and will take to the stage for the DC Nation Panel where he’s sure to discuss the book. It looks like he’s going to be loving his job, based on this piece of stunning artwork, a cover to an upcoming issue.

So, what does everyone think? Are we excited by this news? I know I am. Personally, as much as I have loved Dwayne McDuffie’s work in the past, his run on JLA has not been his best work to me, but a lot of that could be attributed to the ‘behind-the-scenes’ chaos McDuffie has discussed before on his website (http://dwaynemcduffie.com.lamphost.net/). I’m pretty excited that the got James Robinson to pick up the book, because he’s a dynamic writer. But the big question in my mind: can he pull this off, given the editorial limitations of the roster? No Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash; who knows about Green Lantern, Green Arrow or Black Canary. Once again, from everything we’re hearing, it’s another team of B, C & D-listers.
That being said, if anyone can pull it off, it’s Robinson. He’s the guy who made Starman one of the coolest comics around. Hell, he brought back a blue skinned, disco-loving, 70′s Starman and made him cool. For my money, the Justice League is going to be in good hands.
Disagree? Let me know!
