Ryan Reynolds takes on the role of Hal Jordan

Actor Ryan Reynolds (aka Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine has been cast as everyone’s favorite Emerald Ringslinger in the Warner Bros. big budget Green Lantern. Production on the movie is scheduled to begin in January 2010, with Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, GoldenEye) set to direct.

Reynolds had some stiff competition for the role. Rumors of late had been swirling that even Justin Timberlake was up for the part. What is known for sure is that Reynolds was up for the part along with Bradley Cooper (Hangover, Nip/Tuck) and Jared Leto (Requiem for a Dream, Fight Club).

For me, I’m very excited about this news. Ryan Reynolds is a known comic fan and I think he’ll really do justice to the character of Hal Jordan. He has just enough cockiness to pull this off, without Hal coming across as a jackass. Here’s looking forward to the summer of 2011!
