Doctor Who & Torchwood fans rejoice! Coming to a Comic Con near you…

BBC America’s press release confirmed that David Tennant, John Barrowman and Russell T. Davies will be attending Comic Con in July. Tennant and Davies will be participating in a Doctor Who panel on Sunday July 26 10-11am PDT. Tennant will be hitting the convention right after wrapping his final Doctor Who episode. (This Geek Gyrl feels that he filled the shoes of the tenth Doctor more than admirably and he will be greatly missed. Matt Smith will be stepping into those Chucks as the 11th Doctor.)

BBC America has also promised attendees special “sneak peeks” at the upcoming Doctor episodes. The first of the “last” Tennant episodes air on BBC America on June 27; the second special will air on July 26.

Torchwood fans also get treated, when Davies and Barrowman appear on a panel at the convention on Sunday July 26 2:15-3:45pm PDT. Also on that panel will be the creator of BBC’s newest hit, Being Human, Toby Whitehouse, along with the 3 leading actors, Russell Tovey, Lenora Crichlow and Aidan Turner. (I’ve seen the first 3 episodes of Being Human already, and it is not to be missed. I can’t wait for it to hit BBC America.)

There will be airings of Doctor Who and Torchwood episodes throughout the Con, including the five episode Torchwood season 3, Children of the Earth, and the Doctor Who episode, Planet of the Dead. (I’ve seen PotD already, and I can tell you, it’s a lot of fun, and includes Michelle Ryan, of Jekyll and Bionic Woman.)

I am really looking forward to these panels. Sadly, Dr. Who does not have the widespread following in the US that he has abroad – though the work is at times excellent, very few folks have seen it…

It was great to be in a room at last years panel with the Writer of the “BLINK” episode; when he introduced himself, two thousand people jumped to their feet applauding and screaming their approval. It’s nice to know I wasn’t the only one who watched it three times in a row, then bought the T-Shirt…

Other then Galactica, this one episode was probably the best bit of Science Fiction I have ever seen on TV — If you haven’t seen it, don’t blink….
