Blizzard and Legendary Pictures announced today that they’ve partnered with Sam Raimi and his company Star’s Road Entertainment to bring Azeroth to the screen, giving life to the Horde and the Alliance for gamers and mainstreamers, alike.

As most of our readers probably already know, Sam Raimi directed the wildly successful Spiderman trilogy. True geeks will also recall this is the man who originally penned The Evil Dead. According to the official Blizzard Announcement, Raimi said, “At its core, Warcraft is a fantastic, action-packed story. I am thrilled to work with such a dynamite production team to bring this project to the big screen.”

Charles Roven, the producer of The Dark Knight, will also be on board with Raimi. This means not only big budgets and talent magnets, but teaming men who have proven they know how to take charge of an existing world, with myriad details that can be pitfalls, and bring them together in a way that will please the hardcore geeks and people who’ve never even heard of an Orc. Roven was also at the production helm for Batman Begins. The production and direction team is filled out with members of the Legendary, Blizzard and Raimi teams, along with the might of Warner Bros.
