As a more ‘traditional’ comic book geek (you know: cowls and capes; tights and tiaras), I only have a vague familiarity of Astro Boy, but after seeing the trailer for the new movie, I have to say my interest is piqued.

Set in futuristic Metro City, Astro Boy is about a young robot with incredible powers created by a brilliant scientist named Tenma. Powered by positive “blue” energy, Astro Boy is endowed with super strength, x-ray vision, unbelievable speed and the ability to fly. Astro Boy marshals his awesome super powers and returns to Metro City in a valiant effort to save everything he cares about and to understand what it takes to be a hero.

Astro Boy features a plethora of famous voices, including Freddie Highmore, Nicolas Cage, Kristen Bell, Samuel L. Jackson, Donald Southerland, Charlize Theron and Nathan Lane, amongst others, and will be released on October 23, 2009. Check out the trailer:
