Natalie Portman: Zombie Slayer of Yore
Variety.com is reporting that Natalie Portman will star and produce the film adaptation of the best selling novel Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Yeah…Jane Austen and Zombies. Sweet.
The book, written by Seth Grahame-Smith, is described as an expansion of the Austen classic, and tells the tale of a woman’s quest for independence and love, all while dealing with an outbreak of a deadly virus that turns the undead into vicious killers. Portman’s character, Elizabeth Bennet, is on a mission to destroy the zombie infestation, but will find herself taken off track when she meets the very arrogant Mr. Darcy.
C’mon…19th century romance, Jane Austen’s highbrow literature…and zombies. If they would teach this in school, I bet more kids would finally get the whole literature thing! Personally, I’m not always a fan of the zombie movie genre, but after having suffered through Pride and Prejudice in both book and film forms several times, I can’t wait for this one. I only hope that Austen’s not spinning in her grave. Or jumping out of it.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was published in April of 2009. It’s available to order through Amazon.com (just click the link below).
