5 Reasons Your Should Watch The Big Bang TheoryWith the rapid approach of the Fall TV season, I thought it might be a good time to give you 5 good reasons to watch one of my all-time favorite returning shows, The Big Bang Theory.

The show centers around four young Caltech professors, all of whom are painfully nerdy, shy and socially awkward, and the beautiful aspiring actress who is their neighbor. Leonard, Sheldon, Howard and Raj are the main nerds, while Penny is the neighbor who gets swept up into their world of physics, comics, gaming, science fiction and more.

So, why should you watch this show? Read on…

1. The Big Bang Theory takes comedy to a level of geekiness unseen in years…if ever!
My friends and I all agree that this show is about us (well, if we were thinner. And a little better looking. And WAY smarter. The geek comedy comes in the form of so many references within the entire spectrum of geekhood; Star Trek and Star Wars, comic book debates, cheesey sci-fi movies and so much more. Want proof? Check out this incrediblely funny bit from the 2008 Christmas episode (this is the scene that absolutely hooked me on Big Bang!)

2. The Big Bang Theory makes science funny!
As much as I love my science fiction and have always wished to be among the stars, science just isn’t my bag. Quantum filaments and string theory and black holes…I just don’t get ‘em, no matter how hard I try. The great thing about this show, they don’t dumb it down at all. They know most people don’t get half of what they are talking about…but still, somehow, they just make it funny as hell…like in this clip

3. The Big Bang Theory knows their comic book stuff!
I may not know science, but I do know comics…and so do the writers on this show. Superhero references are found everywhere in this show, from costumes and clothing, to action figures and statues in background scenes. From a debate over the recent death of Batman to references to Civil War, their comic knowledge is pretty spot on and, like the real world science, it isn’t dumbed down. Hell, I’ve had most of these debates myself at my local comic shop (and own almost all the shirts, too).

4. The Big Bang Theory can make everyone laugh!
Look, you don’t have to be a geek to love this show. Sure, they can add a nerd/geek factor to almost anything, but that’s part of the appeal. Everyone knows “Rock, Paper, Scissors”. I can’t imagine anyone who doesn’t know how Spock is. And when you throw them together, you get just one example of the numerous bits that make this show accessible to everyone, from long-time geeks to the people who love them!

5. The Big Bang Theory is Sheldon…the most annoying person we’ve all met before!
Everyone, and I mean, everyone, has met a Sheldon at one time or another. That person who just grates every single nerve you have…and yet you just can’t get rid of. Jim Parson’s facial expression, timing and incredible acting skills just bring Sheldon to life…large, annoying, anal retentive, obssesive compulsive life.

I could add five hundred more reasons why you should be watching The Big Bang Theory. Incredible writing, talented actors, and appeal to nerds, geeks and everything in-between…this is a comedy that’s worth spending 30 minutes a week watching. You’ll laugh your geek off.

Check out this last clip to catch you up before The Big Bang Theory returns on Monday, September 21st (at 9:30 pm ET/PT on CBS)

Yeah I’ve been smitten with Sheldon from the get-go, even with all his germ issues.
