"True Blood" Returns to HBO!GS will be featuring regular “Top 5 Reasons” articles and we’re kicking off with True Blood.

True Blood aired last Summer on HBO to rave reviews. based on Charlaine Harris’ novels, Alan Ball, has put his own spin on the tales, which means long time readers and new fans have surprises in store. Which leads to…..

Reason 5) Watch True Blood if you want a show that will grab you by the throat, seduce you and suck you dry each week. They have made this their own creation, sister to Charlaine’s stories, but still uniquely their own which means you can and will be caught off guard and surprised by the turns they take in their tales.

Reason 4) The dialog is outstanding. The quips are almost as fast as a vampire strike, and can slay you just as easily at times. They weave humor tightly with real world commentary and shock value. We find out Bill recycles and one character reveals, ”My ass is magnetic, now…”

Reason 3) They have created their world so completely that you fully expect you could drive around the parishes in Louisiana and eventually stumble across Bon Temps, and maybe stop at Merlott’s for a cold beer and one of their fine burgers. Of course, if you did so, now, Terry might be the one cooking it, since Lafayette has been tied up with other concerns.

Reason 2) The sensuality in the show is not gratuitous; it weaves its way through the stories and is done in a very adult, sophisticated manner. However, this is not your parents’ Dark Shadows, so make sure the kiddies are in bed before you watch. Ultimately, this show is about Life, not Death, and Creation is an integral part of Life; they explore so many forms of creation in this show. The introduction of Michelle Forbs as Maryann may bring that even more into focus, as they expand on her status and nature in the first episode of season two.

Reason 1) The actors obviously invest love and energy in their parts. This means the characters, no matter how otherworldly, ring true on the screen, which sucks you into Bon Temps and the drama. Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin: it’s been a long time since a television couple has had such chemistry on the screen.  They sizzle. Alexander Skarsgard simply embodies Eric Northman, the owner of Fangtasia and the Vampire Sherriff of their area. When he appears in foils for his hair and then proceeds to dish out some very real, vicious vampire justice, those ridiculous foils just highlight the terror and ferocity of the moment.
