The New Doctor Who Premiers in the SpringWell, after this past weekend, the lights have gone out on David Tennant’s TARDIS as his version of the famed Doctor regenerated his way for a young man named Matt Smith to take over the roll. This is a bit sad for me because Tennant is the one who made me a Doctor Who fan. While my brother watched while growing up, I was always more of a Trek-geek. It wasn’t until the end of the Christopher Eccleston era that I started realizing how much fun the good Doctor could be. But it was Tennant who sealed my Who-love, so I’m going to miss him.

And after seeing this preview for the new Doctor Who, I think I might be missing Tennant even more. I know that it’s not fair to judge an entire series on a one minute and nine second clip, and I won’t do that. I plan on watching the first few episodes when the come to BBCAmerica, but I really can’t help feel like somehow, the Doctor has been sucked into the Twilight universe! I can’t explain it, but that’s the vibe I get from the preview. Also, c’mon…this Doctor and his new companion are, what…like twelve years old?! Is he even old enough to drive a TARDIS?!

In all seriousness, I’m cautiously excited about the new series, if nothing other than the fact that we see a few familiar faces returning (and one in particular made me whoop out loud!). Doctor Who has managed to capture are whole new audience these last five years and, as one of those new audience members, I’m confident they’ll keep that momentum going.

And maybe he’ll be old enough to shave by the end of his reign as The Doctor.
