For American viewers, it’s finally time to see The Doctor, again. Yes, Doctor Who returns to BBC America Saturday June 27, 2009, at 9/8c. For UK viewers, this will be a re-release of the Christmas Day Special, “The Next Doctor”, but for (most) Americans, this will be an early Christmas gift. Russell T. Davies pens this romp through Victorian London, which features David Morrissey as another Doctor. The past and future Doctors team up to investigate the unusual activities surrounding missing children and aliens in the rafters.

In related news, Torchwood’s five episode 2009 series airs in high definition on BBC America beginning Monday, July 20, 2009 9/8c. “Children of the Earth” will air each night, ending July 25, 2009. The second Doctor Who episode, “Planet of the Dead”, will finish the week long Whovian Universe fun on Sunday, July 26, 2009 8/7c, per BBC America news releases.

“Planet of the Dead” guest stars the talented and charismatic Michelle Ryan, as Lady Christina, a blue blooded thief. The supporting cast in this episode is also particularly entertaining, and David Tennant simply shines.

The third Doctor Special, Waters of Mars, has not been assigned an air date in the UK or America, but it is expected to be released in the Fall.

As most Who fans know, this year will usher out David Tennant and introduce Matt Smith as the 11th Doctor. Coming along for the ride with Smith will be a new companion, actress Karen Gillan. Stephen Moffat will also be taking the helm, replacing Russell T. Davies as lead writer.

So set your recorders and DVR’s, and tell your friends and family they better be on fire to interrupt you on these few Who nights this summer.

Woo-hoo! I’m excited for this! Glad you posted this! I would have forgotten!

I’m not very excited to see Tennant go…especially since the Doctor they’re bringing in is, what…like 12 years old?! But still, it’s Doctor Who, so it’s all good, right?!
